What A Joke

After the announcement that the media is again consolidating, here is another joke.

Politicians are confident that while the two media players have joined hands in their television and free newspaper businesses, Singaporeans will not be deprived of different sources of information.

They also say the experiment with competition by MediaCorp and SPH, though costly, was necessary.

Singaporeans have many sources to turn to for information.

Local media players know this and have already been working hard to ensure they are credible and entertaining to Singapore audiences.

No lack of alternative info sources in wake of media consolidation: Acting MCYS Minister

Necessary? What a joke. At the expense of so much money, becoming a laughing stock of others, it is necessary? What does it prove? Why is it necessary?

Seriously, I have stopped reading the newspapers, watching local television programmes (yes, this include not bothering about Singapore Idol) since I had cable television and a broadband connection. What I need is available from the Net, sometimes even those I cannot get from local television, so why bother watching local television?
